One of the things I like to do when I’m in my “me time” state is to reflect on how things are going. One of those is how well am I doing in this game of life? Am I settling with where I’m at? Do I need to do anything different? What can I do to spice or power up my life?
Here are 12 ways an introvert can power up their life…
1. Spend quality time with loved ones
Since being in large groups can be overwhelming at times, look for areas where you can spend time with a few of your loved ones. After I spend time with my loved ones it’s my opportunity to plug into their life along with them to hear more about what I have been up to. My wife and I do this every morning over a cup or two of coffee.
2. Eliminate things no longer serving you
It’s time to simplify your life. With so many things in our lives, there are plenty of things we can get rid of. Those things don’t make us better nor do they provide any sort of benefit. For me, years ago I decided to eliminate the news. It wasn’t serving me nor was it making me any better of a person. What’s one thing you can eliminate from your life that no longer serves you?
3. Come up with a BHAG (pronounced BEE-hag)
A BHAG is a Big Hairy Audacious Goal and they are meant for creating a ridiculous goal you don’t think you will entirely meet. However, what I have learned over the years is that by setting BHAGs it gets my creative juices flowing and opens up new opportunities. I take more calculated risks and they set me in the motion to achieving some part of the overall goal. The way I look at it is, I may have never hit my BHAG but what I have learned and have achieved as a result of setting it has kicked my life into the next gear.
4. Go fishing
I’m not a big fisherman, and I only get a few opportunities a year at the lake house but when I do it I feel amazing afterwards. In this nature setting it gives me that state of solitude. Fishing may not be your thing, so what is one way that brings you great solitude?
5. Partake in a comedy movie binge
There is a lot that can be said about laughter. “A good laugh heals a lot of hurts.” ~ Madeleine L’Engle. I agree with Madeleine that laughter makes you feel so much better, especially after a rough day. An easy way to get a good laugh is by watching comedy movies. One of my favorites is Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Albeit corny, it is filled with a bunch of humor.
6. Buy yourself something special
You work hard for the life you live so why not do something special for yourself. Perhaps there is a special thing you have always wanted that’s been just a bit out of reach. Now is the time you’re going to get it. It shouldn’t overextend you too much, just a bit that once you get it, you’ll feel great!
7. Go on a vacation
With so much going on in our lives, sometimes we need a good healthy break so we can reset. And, a vacation can certainly do that for you. If you’re not big on traveling that’s ok just go some where special. A trip to the lake house is one of my favorites. It isn’t anything extraordinary but to me I feel great when I’m there. So, think of place where you would like to go.
8. Read an autobiography
There is a lot that can be learned from other people plus everyone knows how much us introverts love reading. 🙂 One of my favorite books is Andrew Carnegie by David Nasaw. I learned so many things about Andrew Carnegie I wouldn’t have otherwise known. This book inspired me to do more things in my life and autobiographies can do that for you too.
9. Do something cra-cra
Is there one thing in your life you have always wanted to do? Maybe now is the time to do it. Push the limit just a bit and watch how you will feel afterwards. For me, it gives me a great sense of accomplishment and I feel like I can do anything. Ok, maybe not anything but certainly more than I thought I was capable of doing.
10. Build up your bucket list
Think of 10 things you really want to do and write them down. Once you have your list, over time start doing each and every one of them. Just remember this bucket list doesn’t have to be anything extreme just a list of things you want to have or do that you have not experienced yet.
11. Create a gratitude list
It is so easy to forget about all of the good things. We sometimes focus on the negative and that really doesn’t power up our lives. So why not take some time to list out all of the things we are grateful for. I know, it may seem like a silly ask but trust me once you’re done with your list you will realize all of the good in your life that it will kickstart your life into its next phase.
12. Perform an ARK (Act of Random Kindness)
You know all about the pay it forward philosophy, right? Do something special for someone else. The best part is you don’t have to let that other person know that you did it. For example, if you’re at a local coffee shop drive-thru let the cashier know you want to also pay for the person’s coffee behind you. There are many ways you can do this in incognito and feel good about it.
